Scleral Shell

Erickson’s Eyes also creates prostheses for situations in which a non-functioning eye has not been removed from the socket. This prosthesis is called a Scleral Shell. Scleral shells fit over the surface of an integrated implant or disfigured or diseased eye, and are generally worn full time, although they may be removed for cleaning and maintenance. In many cases, superior movement can be achieved with slceral shell prostheses because the underlying eye retains its motion.

At Erickson’s Eyes, we devote the same high level of care and attention to achieving the fit, comfort, and most natural appearance possible of custom shells as we do for entire artificial eyes.
